Radbourne Hall
This distinguished project, collaboratively realised with Wheathills, had the honour of being supervised by the Queen's architect, Peregrine Bryant, marking a significant endeavour that spanned several months.
At Fern Specialist Decorators, our approach to conserving the interiors of this Grade 1 listed family home was guided by a principle of minimal intervention, essential for preserving the building's unique and fine patination acquired over generations. The original Colefax and Fowler paintwork alongside composition wood finishes laid the foundation for the house's extraordinary finish.
Central to this assignment was the restoration of oak panelling, necessitating skilled woodgraining to emulate the venerable John Fowler's quarter sawn oak technique, originally introduced in the 1950s. A notable aspect of my role involved the meticulous reproduction of John Fowler's signature gilt signage, a detail I find particularly noteworthy. Under the vigilant guidance of Mr. Bryant, the original John Fowler work was carefully preserved. The undertaking was comprehensive, encompassing both restoration and conservation, and was executed to meet the exacting standards set forth by Peregrine Bryant and Fiona Lansdowne.
This project exemplifies Fern's commitment to enhancing and preserving historical interiors with respect for their original craftsmanship and character.
